4 REASONS SUNSCREEN IS THE BE ALL AND END ALL
The biggest misconception when it comes to sunscreen is that it’s only needed for those beach days and only really necessary when the temperature is scorching outside. If you are one of those people, then hopefully you will change your mind by the end of this post.
Wearing sunscreen everyday should be a crucial part of your skincare routine because without it, you’re exposing the most sensitive skin on your face to potential sun damage, which is one of the many causes of uneven skin tone, amongst a number of other things.
So if it’s cloudy outside, should you still wear sunscreen?
Yes of course!! Up to 80% of the sun’s rays can pass through clouds and on days where it’s overcast you could be at a risk for even high sun exposure. Also never forget that the higher you are in altitude, the greater the UV exposure, so yes you need your sunscreen on that skiing trip as well!
Here are a few of the benefits you can expect to see if you start applying sunscreen to your face every day:
1. Your skin will be protected from harmful UV rays – yes sunscreen will not completely block these rays, but it will add a protective layer between your skin and the sun and in turn will minimise your sun damage.
2. Helps protect against premature aging – yes we all want youthful looking skin but overexposure to the sun can increase the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and can also cause a break down of the skins natural collagen which could lead to skin sagging. All the more reason to start early!
3. Lowers your skin cancer risk – I know we have all heard this before, but melanoma has increased over the last few years, especially in females in their 20’s. The only way to combat this is to be consistent and ensure your sunscreen is applied daily. Your skin will thank you later.
4. Healthier skin overall – at the end of the day you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. By adding sunscreen to your skincare or by using products which incorporate sunscreen, you are protecting your skins natural essential proteins, such as keratin. By doing that, you keep your skin smooth and healthy in appearance and function.
So, the next time you reach for your moisturiser, make sure you reach for your sunscreen as well – and if they are the same product then you’re already winning at life!
